Thai Yoga Massage is unlike the kind of massage we think of, here in the West. Don't get me wrong, I love a good sports massage or deep tissue massage, but Thai Yoga Massage (TYM) is wonderful in a different way. In TYM, the practitioner focuses on the energy lines (sen lines) of the client and works on blockages and movement of that energy. TYM involves pressing and pulling and twisting and movement of the body to encourage this energy flow.
TYM is done on a mat on the floor. A lot of space is needed for this bodywork! The client is completely clothed and does not need to have any prior knowledge or understanding of TYM or yoga.
The intention of a Thai Yoga Massage is for relaxation, of course, but also to encourage and assist the healing of the mind/body. Although TYM is a form of healing, it may not be for everyone. People with certain chronic conditions, diseases, and injuries should avoid this. If you aren't sure, ask your doctor.
*Everyone is busy and money conscious, however, I have found through my own experience of giving and receiving TYM that 1 hour is quick and not enough time to relax and work on the parts that need it. I do recommend more than an hour if your schedule and wallet can afford it. Also, don't worry about me. I protect myself throughout, so after a 2 hour session, I am not fatigued.
I can only massage one person at a time, but I can show two people movements and techniques to practice on each other. Loving touch doesn't always have to be sexual. In a Couples Thai Yoga Massage session, you'll learn and practice energy exchange, and awareness of your own body and that of your partner. Practicing loving-kindness, metta, is a gentle yet powerful way to heal yourself and others.
Burgundie is not a massage therapist.
Thai Yoga Massage is not recommended for people with injuries or certain chronic conditions. Please consult your physician if you are not sure if TYM is right for you.
